Networking Lunch with Footballing Legend Tony Adams: Hard Battles on and off the Pitch
Kelvin Trott the CEO of Alexander Charles Associates, would like to warmly thank Arsenal and England star Tony Adams and guests for joining us at the London Sporting Club to learn about his career on and off the field, and perhaps of equal importance the amazing work he is doing with his charities.
Tony Adams spent his whole 22-year football career as a centre back at Arsenal where won four top flight division titles, captaining a title-winning team in three different decades. He also won 66 caps for England between 1987 and 2000 and played at four major tournaments. The footballing legend spoke about his illustrious footballing career and described how his team worked together to create a unit much greater than the sum of its parts. He also shared with a raw honesty his long-term battles with alcohol and depression, which included a prison sentence for drink driving. He spoke with compelling candour about his addiction and how he has channelled his experiences into his charitable work by founding the Sporting Chance Clinic, a charity providing treatment, counselling and support for sports men and women suffering from drink, drug or gambling addictions. Adams is also patron of the charities NACOA (information and support to people affected by their parents’ drinking) and School-Home Support (helping disadvantaged children and young people overcome barriers to education).
Adams’ post-lunch dialogue was met with a standing ovation and the realisation that this had been the most moving speech attended to date. Also present were former England rugby lock forward Simon Shaw and Absolute Radio star Richie Firth. Finally, money was raised for Adams’ charity School Home Support.
