Tips for success from a leading lion! Wise words from Sam Warburton

This week, CEO of Alexander Charles Associates Kelvin Trott attended a networking lunch with Welsh international rugby union player Sam Warburton.

Warburton became captain of Wales for the first time when he was just 22 years of age (making him the second youngest captain after Gareth Edwards) which involved leading players who were older and much more experienced than himself. This type of leadership challenge can be mirrored in business, but just as in sport, with talent and perseverance a good leader can motivate their team to success. Warburton led his side to victory in two grand slams and captained the British and Irish Lions in two tours. As with any career, whether sporting or in business, there were obstacles to overcome and Warburton described how he was sent off in a World Cup semi-final.

Looking to the future, Warburton is preparing for the 2018 Six Nations, 2019 World Cup and potentially also the 2021 Lions tour to South Africa. Crucial to the success of his team will be planning, preparation and training. These are areas which transcend sector boundaries and are key components for the success of any endeavour. Looking towards 2018, Alexander Charles Associates wishes all our clients and candidates, a restful festive break and many huge successes in the new year!
